What began as a modest production of simple equipment and children's toys has now become a global supplier of advanced high-quality machinery. Read our story.

Today, we are divided into two entities: Orkel - Global supplier of agricultural and industrial compactors and Orkel Direkte - Supplier of agricultural equipment to the Norwegian market.

SOLID NORWEGIAN CRAFTSMANSHIP SINCE 1949

Our story starts in 1949: at the age of 27, the Norwegian welder, Johan Gjønnes, invested in a welding machine. The intention was to make a living out of repairing sledges and bicycles for neighbours and acquaintances. In a small smokehouse in Fannrem, he gradually developed the business into production of toys, tricycles and simple hand carriages for agriculture.

INNOVATIVE PRODUCTS BASED ON EXPERIENCE

But then during the 1960s and 1970s, Gjønnes increased the production of agricultural-oriented equipment. Orkel's products then quickly gained a reputation for being sturdy, innovative, profitable, and low-maintenance. Demand increased, and more employees became involved in production. Many of the new employees had a farming background or experience in agriculture. This meant that the new products were the result of practical experience and firsthand knowledge of farmers' needs.

FROM COUNTRYSIDE WORKSHOP TO GLOBAL BRAND

Soon, the story of Orkel escalated, and Orkel became an established brand, known for its reliable quality. In 1986 the first Orkel baler was invented, and with the round grass bales, Orkel really got the worlds attention. In 2002 the first agricultural Orkel compactor was shipped out to its owner in Switzerland, and in 2003 Orkel won the silver medal of innovation at Agritechnica.

PASSION FOR INNOVATION AND QUALITY FOR 70 YEARS

Although Orkel has become an international company, the factory and headquarters are still located in Fannrem. The workshop has grown larger, production has diversified, and the number of employees has increased. However, the goal remains the same as it was 70 years ago: to create the world's best machinery for agriculture and industry through innovation and a passion for craftsmanship.

Today the company is one of the largest producers of agricultural and industrial machinery in Norway, and holds a unique position in the domestic market.
